ALCHEMY

Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Award winner 2011
‘The jury was instantly and unanimously convinced by the artistic integrity of this designer who provides the fashion industry with much needed oxygen’. Mrs. Fabiana Giacomotti, the Editor -in-chief of Fashion Illustrated, and Mr. Armand Hadida, owner of L’Eclaireur and Tranoï in Paris declared about the winning designer Conny Groenewegen, on behalf of the entire jury.

Autumn/Winter 2011 – 2012
This collection is inspired by ‘alchemy’ and the mysterious transformations that colour our mind, body and spirit. Each knit garment is processed with pigments resulting in a layered colour intensity that changes the character of each yarn -shiny gold, silver and copper yarns are transformed with an oxidized look. Open cotton and silk knits are combined with tight wool patterns that are washed to create a felting effect. To combine such contrasting qualities in one intarsia knit fabric allows the designer to integrate and pre define the shape for each design in developing the knit and choosing the yarn. This results in rich textured and shaped garments with a minimum use of seams. This ‘alchemical process’ resulted in a series of minimal silhouettes with a fascinating balance between traditional craftsmanship and innovation.
